Cops: Man shot in Far South Side robbery attempt

A man was shot in the leg as he tried to run away from a would-be robber in the Roseland neighborhood this morning, police said.

The man, age 22, was in good condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn this afternoon after the shooting in the 200 block of east 115th Street, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

A man or boy demanded the man's money about 10:56 a.m., and when the man tried to run away, the attacker shot him, Mirabelli said. As he ran away, the victim dropped his backpack, but the attacker ran off.

It was not immediately clear whether the attacker was able to steal anything from the victim, although it did not appear any money was taken. A description of the attacker was not immediately available.

Area South detectives were investigating.
