A Bellwood man was pronounced dead early this morning after being shot while sitting in a vehicle on his block in the west suburb, officials said.
The shooting happened shortly after midnight on the 1000 block of Bellwood Avenue and resulted in the death of Darion Mason of Bellwood, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The office ruled Mason's death a homicide.
Mason, 35, who lived on the block where he was shot, was sitting in a parked vehicle when someone came up to him and shot him, according to Bellwood Police Dep. Chief Miguel Herrera.
Mason was pronounced dead at 12:12 a.m. on the scene, according to the medical examiner's office.
A man in his 30s who is considered a person of interest in the case is in custody, said Herrera.
No charges have been filed in the case, Herrera said.
