'Columbinus'

When an artist is telling a story about a shooting that killed children in a school, a very real shooting such as the one at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., that artist has a moral obligation to raise his or her game. Such is the situation at American Theater Company, where PJ Paparelli is unleashing his revised <a href="http://chicago.metromix.com/events/mmxchi-columbinus-event" target="_">"Columbinus,"</a> a devastating oral-history piece that had a 2006 production but now contains an entirely new third act. Paparelli (whose co-author is Stephen Karam) returned to Littleton 13 years after Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold came to that suburban high school, loaded with pain and pipe bombs. Back then, it was an aberration. These days, it is perilously close to feeling routine. This is why "Columbinus," which is both respectful and riveting, packs such a new punch. Through March 10 at American Theater Company, 1909 W. Byron St.; $33-$43 at 773-409-4125 and <a href="http;//www.atcweb.org" target="_">atcweb.org</a>
