Larry Gray

Chicago bassist Larry Gray plays authoritatively in so many musical idioms that it's no wonder he's practically ubiquitous in the city's top jazz room, the Jazz Showcase.

Within just the past couple of months Gray has accompanied such far-flung headliners as New Orleans alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, fusion-tinged guitarist Larry Coryell, old-school saxophonist Benny Golson and contemporary jazz pianist Bob Mamet. In coming weeks, listeners at the Showcase will hear Gray backing Brazilian trumpeter Claudio Roditi, trombone and conch shell virtuoso Steve Turre and retro saxophonist Harry Allen with singer Rebecca Kilgore.
