Two men were killed and five people wounded between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
The most recent homicide happened about 5:45 a.m. in the 9700 block of South Exchange Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood on the Far South Side. Police were sent to the area to check on someone's well-being and found a man dead in the street with a gunshot wound, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said. He had been shot in the chest, police said.
The man remained unidentifed this evening, although the Cook County medical examiner's office said he was believed to be in his 20s.
A 19-year-old man was killed about 4 a.m. in the 5600 block of South Shields Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. Travis Henry, of the 5600 block of South Princeton Avenue, was declared dead on the scene, according rto the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The victim was found unresponsive at the scene, News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. Police blocked off much of the street, where at least two dozen casings stretched from one side of the street to the car where the man was killed. At least six shots hit the windshield.
Court records show Henry also went by the name Travis Lindsey, and had been arrested at least twice this year, most recently in September, but had charges against him dropped.
About 5:57 a.m., a 25-year-old woman was shot in the 5400 block of West Diversey Avenue in the Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side, five blocks from a shooting about two hours earlier. She was taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center.
A 29-year-old man was shot multiple times about 4:15 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Diversey Avenue, also in the Cragin neighborhood. He was in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Alfaro said.
A male walked into John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County with a gunshot wound to the back. He was shot about 4:25 a.m. in the 1800 block of West 23rd Street in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.
A 27-year-old man was shot in the neck about 3:25 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Loomis Avenue in the University Village / Little Italy neighborhood on the Near Southwest Side. He was at Stroger Hospital, Alfaro said.
About 3 a.m. a 37-year-old man was shot in the back in the 1600 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on the South Side. He was in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
