• A 9-year-old girl drowned while swimming with other children near a boat launch along Fox Lake in northwest suburban Ingleside, authorities said. The girl was playing with the other children when she went under water around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 36000 block of Stanton Point Road in Ingleside, according to Lake County Sgt. Sara Balmes. Adults jumped in the water and pulled her out and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, according to the sergeant and a witness on the scene. Read more

• Three men were killed and a four was wounded in attacks across Chicago overnight, according to police. Shortly after midnight, Elvis Canfield, 51, was stabbed several times during a fight in the 3900 block of West Division Street, according to Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. Officers on the scene said Canfield was stabbed in the chest and shoulder just off the corner of Division Street and Harding Avenue, then stumbled around a parked car and collapsed on a sidewalk. Canfield grabbed a pole outside a store, leaving a bloody handprint, police said. Read more

• A South Side man has been charged with hitting a Chicago police officer in the head with a baseball bat as the officer tried to break up a fight in the West Englewood neighborhood over the weekend. Tythia Thigpen, 29, of the 5700 block of South Winchester Avenue, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery to a peace officer and aggravated battery use of deadly weapon, police said. He is expected to appear in bond court today. Read more

• Police divers searched the waters of Lake Michigan for a man who was reported missing by his brother after a raft drifted away from a beach and into Lake Michigan near Jackson Park on the South Side.
