• A man died when a fire broke out this morning in a West Side home that lacked working smoke detectors, authorities said. The fire was reported at 3:47 a.m. in the 4100 block of West Gladys Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, according to Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez said. Firefighters arrived three minutes later and found flames in the basement and on the first floor, Hernandez said. Read more
• Police are searching for a man they believe fondled a 6-year-old girl as the girl and her father shopped in the Northwest Side's Mayfair neighborhood Monday. The incident happened about 3:15 p.m. Monday, in a store in the 4600 block of North Elston Avenue, police said in a community alert.
