The Chicago Sports Commission announced Wednesday the city is a finalist for six NCAA championships.
The NCAA will pick the sites by Dec. 11.
The sports commission submitted the bids in conjunction with schools and venues.
The events are:
-- Frozen Four, men’s ice hockey, to be hosted by Notre Dame, supported by the Blackhawks and played at the United Center, with 2015, 2017 and 2018 as possibilities.
-- Women’s Division I volleyball for 2017, to be hosted by Loyola and played at the United Center.
For the other sports, any single year from 2015 through 2018 is a possibility.
-- Men’s lacrosse Final Four (Division I) and championship game (Divisions II and III), to be hosted by Notre Dame and played in a three-day period at Soldier Field.
-- Women’s Division I lacrosse Final Four, to be hosted by Northwestern and played at Toyota Park.
-- Men’s and women’s gymnastics, separate events on successive weekends, to be hosted by the University of Illinois-Chicago and contested at the UIC Pavilion.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
