Chicago cyclist 7th in Paralympics

Tribune reporter

Chicago cyclist Greta Neimanas finished seventh Thursday in the 3,000-meter individual pursuit, her first race at the 2012 Paralympics.

"Didn't have the race I wanted or that I can do," she tweeted.  "Sometimes it happens.  On to the next day & next race."

Neimanas, reigning world silver medalist in the event, clocked 4 minutes, 3.20 seconds.  It took 3:49 to make the semifinals.

Sarah Storey of Great Britain, the favorite and eventual gold medalist, set a Para-cycling world record of 3:32.17 in the qualifying.  That was a slightly more than a second better than her old world record.

Neimanas' next race is the 500-meter time trial Saturday.  She also will do two road cycling events next week.
