A 24-year-old man was killed in the Roseland neighborhood and at least four other people have been shot since Sunday morning on the South and Northwest sides, authorities said.
The fatal shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 11100 block of South Vernon Avenue, police said. Officers in the area heard shots fired and found the 24-year-old man lying unresponsive in a vacant lot, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

The man was walking down the sidewalk when a white Toyota Camry pulled up and a passenger started shooting, Alfaro said. The 18-year-old was struck multiple times and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
In the most recent shooting, about 12:10 a.m. Monday morning, a 24-year-old man was shot inside a convenience store in the 2600 block of East 79th Street in the South Shore neighborhood, Alfaro said.
The man was shot by a gunman who had walked inside with a female and fired shots, police said. The man was struck twice in the thighs and once in the abdomen and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
The shooter and his companion fled the scene after the shooting, police said.
