A Carpentersville man pleaded guilty today to driving drunk during a 2011 single-car accident that killed one of his passengers.
Ulises Beltran, 24, of the 1600 block of Sacramento Drive, agreed in Kane County court to plead guilty to two counts of aggravated driving under the influence for the accident that killed Victor Ortega, 24, of South Elgin.
According to authorities, Beltran was driving east on the Jane Addams Tollway near Elgin at around 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 when he lost control of his car. Two other passengers were injured in the crash.
Beltran’s blood-alcohol content .169 percent, about double the legal limit of .08, according to Kane County prosecutors.
Prosecutors agreed to drop some charge against Beltran in exchange for his guilty plea, although there was no agreement on a sentence. Kane County Circuit Court Judge Marmarie Kostelny scheduled sentencing for Sept. 20. Beltran could be sentenced to between three and 14 years in prison, though probation is also an option, prosecutors said.
Beltran has been held in the Kane County Jail in lieu of $350,000 bail since the crash.
