An 8-year-old boy was struck and seriously injured by a CTA bus that was pulling into a stop in the Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side late this afternoon, authorities said.
The No. 74/Fullerton bus was headed west on Fullerton Avenue near Lavergne Avenue about 5:25 p.m. when the boy, who was on the northeast corner of the intersection, apparently ran in front of the bus, officials said.
The boy was taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital in serious but stable condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department’s office of media affairs.
The boy suffered a head contusion in the accident in the 5000 block of West Fullerton Avenue, but was walking and talking after being injured, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.
The boy’s injuries appeared not to be life-threatening, said Catherine Hosinski, a spokeswoman for the CTA. No reroutes were necessary following the accident, she said.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
