Political Santa

Gov. Rod Blagojevich answers question after he and and his family switched on the Christmas tree lights at a James R.Thompson Center ceremony in Chicago. Blagojevich acknowledged that he would be playing the role of a political Santa for someone this holiday season by selecting a Senate successor to President-elect Barack Obama. "I'm looking forward to being even more giving this holiday season than I have in the past," Blagojevich said, touting the state's annual food and clothing drive at the tree-lighting ceremony at the Thompson Center. "And I'll also give somebody a U.S. Senate seat for Christmas." The governor didn't reveal who was on his Christmas list but said his office was vetting potential replacements he could appoint to fill Obama's seat through 2010. Tribune photo by Chuck Berman
