Before addressing a range of world problems from crumbling infrastructure to improving early childhood education, both Mayor Rahm Emanuel and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used their speeches at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Chicago to brag about the Blackhawks.
“Before I start, I have something very important to say: Go Blackhawks!” Emanuel said. “When I was coming home from the game last night about 12:30, I said, ‘Who can I call?’ and I said, ‘President Clinton. He’ll be up.’ From years of working with him, he’d be the only person to go to, to give credit to the Hawks for a great game.”
Former President Bill Clinton also is at the meeting.
Hillary Clinton recalled rooting for the Blackhawks during her formative years growing up in suburban Park Ridge.
“I can remember listening to Blackhawks games -- on the radio -- when I was doing my homework all those years ago, and my father and brothers and I were great Blackhawks fans,” she said. “But three overtimes, really? I can imagine a sense of euphoria as well as exhaustion affecting many of our Chicago participants today, and I heartily endorse the mayor’s call of, 'Go Blackhawks.' ”Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
