Tom Petters, Petters Group Worldwide

A federal judge in April 2010 sentenced fallen Minnesota tycoon Tom Petters to 50 years in prison for orchestrating a $3.7 billion Ponzi scheme that counted hedge funds, pastors, missionaries and retirees among its victims. His Petters Group Worldwide had stakes in companies including Polaroid and Sun Country Airlines, and somehow endured for at least 14 years.
