As far as biking battle scars go, Melissa Bisch's couldn't be more Chicago.
The 28-year-old Ravenswood resident said she was biking home from work on State Street Wednesday -- during Bike Week no less -- when she misjudged the height of a section of the street under construction. She took a nasty spill but the avid cyclist, who has ridden to and from work every day for the past year, got right back on and rode home.
When she arrived, she had only one injury: A bruise and a few scratches in almost the perfect shape of the Chicago flag.
"I guess Chicago just wanted to brand me as a legit Chicagoan," she said. She's been considering getting a tattoo of the Chicago flag for a while, she said.
The accident isn't her first, but even the most recent mishap that resulted in the Chicago-patriotic bruise isn't keeping her off the road. She's biked to and from work the rest of the week.
"I look forward to it every day," she said.
