A brass band and several state and city dignitaries greeted a Pan American <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORCRP016874" title="World Airways Incorporated" href="/topic/business/world-airways-incorporated-ORCRP016874.topic">World Airways</a> flight that was the first around-the-world flight to land in Chicago on June 30, 1947. Newspaper editors and publishers, including Tribune managing editor J. Loy Malloney, were on-board the flight, which ushered in global service in Chicago.
