A man who was killed when a dump truck hit him this morning in the Pilsen neighborhood has been identified, authorities said.
The pedestrian, identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Gerardo Rodriguez, was struck about 8:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of West Cermak Road on the West Side, according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
Rodriguez,48, of the 3500 block of West Armitage Avenue, suffered multiple blunt trauma and was pronounced dead at 9:02 a.m. at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the medical examiner's office.
The driver was issued citations and the accident was not a hit and run, authorities said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
