8 injured in crash involving CTA bus on South Side

At least eight people were injured late Saturday morning in an accident involving a CTA bus and a U-Haul truck on the South Side in the city's Chatham neighborhood.

The accident happened about 11:15 a.m. at 79th Street and King Drive, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Joe Roccasalva, citing preliminary information.

The accident involved a bus and a U-Haul truck, he said.

According to preliminary information from the CTA, a westbound 79th Street bus was struck by a truck at King Drive, said Tammy Chase, a CTA spokeswoman. Chase said several people were reported injured in the crash.

Six people were taken to hospitals in fair-to-serious condition; and two others were transported in good condition. The ages and genders of the injured was not immediately available, said Roccasalva.

As of 11:52 a.m., there was no information available about the crash from the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
