An overnight crash on the Tri-State Tollway near Elmhurst injured six people, including three children, according to Illinois State Police officials.
The accident happened shortly after midnight as a Ford SUV and a BMW car were both heading south on I-294 near mile marker 33 near St. Charles Road, said Illinois State Trooper Master Sgt. Ed Petrik.
The BMW, driven by an Oak Lawn man, was traveling in the far left lane and made an improper lane change, said Petrik. The car's front struck the rear left side of the SUV, which was in the center lane, Petrik said.
The impact caused the driver of the SUV to lose control and roll over on the roadway, he said.
Inside the SUV was a family from southwest suburban Burbank, including a 12-year-old girl, a 6-year-old boy, and a 4-year-old boy, Petrik said.
The parents in the SUV sustained serious injuries and were taken to Loyola Medical Center. The children sustained minor injuries and were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment.
The driver of the BMW was hospitalized at Elmhurst hospital for minor injuries.
The roadway was closed for about an hour.
The accident remains under investigation. No citations have been filed.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
