40 years of 'Soul Train' celebrated with free Millennium Park concert

"Soul Train," the televised house that Don Cornelius built on a bedrock of soul, funk and ahead-of-their time dance moves, will celebrate its 40th anniversary today with a free concert at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.

Chicago soul greats Jerry Butler, the Impressions, the Emotions and Gene Chandler will perform with an orchestra, and Cornelius himself is expected to attend.

The concert, which begins at 6:30 p.m., caps a series of events recognizing the long-running television show based in Chicago, including a photo exhibit, a dance party, and the screening of a Soul Train movie.
