Hip-Hop Meets Soul
Hip-hop doesn't always have to be about swag and expletives. And R&B doesn't always have to be down-tempo love/pop songs. The "Hip-Hop Meets Soul" concert will have Erykah Badu, who takes the artistic approach to soul and R&B; Doug E. Fresh, the original beatbox king who still reigns on the mic, and on how to do the Dougie; and Slick Rick, the rapping storyteller who can spit a bedtime rhyme most parents can recite and wouldn't mind the kiddies repeating.
Why go: For a chance to party to hip-hop and R&B without having to bang your head, sag your pants or stake out a spot on the general-admission floor.
Reconsider: You feel wearing pants at the waist is overrated.
Details: 8 p.m. Saturday at Arie Crown Theater, McCormick Place, 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive; $70-$95; 800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com
