A flawed, inconsistent police response to sexual assault in Maryland

JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound

East Coast native JC Brooks didn't relocate to Chicago because of the city's vibrant music community. The dapper frontman behind one of the area's hottest up-and-coming groups wasn't even originally interested in getting involved. "When I made the decision to move, Chicago's music scene wasn't really in my mind," concedes Brooks, who came to the Midwest approximately seven years ago after attending college in Pittsburgh. "I moved to build my resume as an actor. I was in a pop-punk band back in school. But it never became the main course." 9 p.m. Friday at Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave.; $10-$12 (21+); doubledoor.comRead the full JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound interview
