A taxi driver received two tickets after he struck two young children as they crossed the street on the Magnificent Mile, Chicago police said today.
The incident happened in the 500 block of North Michigan Avenue at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, forcing police to close the road to southbound traffic, Chicago Police Officer Darryl Baety said.
The taxi was headed south on Michigan Avenue when it struck the children, who had just gotten out of a stopped vehicle, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.
The children, 8 and 6, were taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital. The 8-year-old suffered a bruised stomach, and the 6-year-old was treated for a broken femur, police said. Police said the victims were a boy and girl, but couldn't match their age with their gender.
The taxi driver, Friday Ekon, 65, of south suburban Richton Park, received two citations for failure to exercise due care with pedestrians in the roadway, police said.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
