An 11-year-old girl was killed by a car in south suburban Harvey as she tried to cross the street this afternoon, authorities and said.
The girl was identified as Aniyah Baisten, 11. She was hit in the 15200 block of Wood Street in the south suburb and declared dead on the scene at 2:29 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Aniyah lived just a block from where she was killed, in the 15200 block of Page Avenue in Harvey, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Harvey police were dispatched to the area near 151 st and Wood streets about 2 p.m., and found the girl, Harvey Police spokeswoman Sandra Alvarado said in an email. The girl was unresponsive, and paramedics were unable to revive her, Alvarado said.
The girl apparently was trying to cross the street when she was hit by a Chrysler Concord, Alvarado said.
The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman, was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, having an expired driver’s license and having no insurance. The driver’s identity was not being released.
