11 left homeless after Gresham apartment fire

Eleven people, including five children, were left homeless as a fire ripped through a three-story apartment in the Gresham neighborhood this afternoon, officials said.

The fire was reported at 2 p.m. on the 8000 block of South May Street on the South Side, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

The fire extended from the basement through the third floor of the building, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported but the fire caused six adults and five children to be displaced. Human services officials were contacted.
