A man who holed himself and a woman up inside an apartment following a domestic incident has been arrested and the situation is under control this evening in the Rogers Park neighborhood, police said.

Police were summoned to an apartment in the 1300 block of West Birchwood Avenue for a call of a domestic disturbance at 2:06 p.m., said police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

Officers got there and found a man had barricaded himself inside an apartment with a woman.

Zala said she was able to escape and was taken to Saint Francis Hospital for treatment.

At 5:50 p.m., the barricaded man was taken into custody and taken to an area hospital to be checked out, said Zala.

An ambulance that was at the scene at the intersection of Sheridan Road and Birchwood Avenue took one person to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston with injuries that are not life-threatening, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Joe Roccasalva. The transport was made about 4 p.m., he added, but it was not clear what kind of injuries the patient suffered.

The ambulance was there “on standby’’ to help police, Roccasalva said.

Witnesses reported seeing as many as 15 police vehicles at the scene.

Area North detectives are investigating.
