A Mount Prospect man who police believe was not wearing a seatbelt died in a three-vehicle crash in Palatine this morning after he apparently ran a red light and his car was struck by a van, authorities said.
Steve L. Banks, 32, of the 1100 block of Boxwood Drive in Mount Prospect, was declared dead after a Palatine Fire Department crew transported him to Northwest Community Hospital.
Fire crews were called to the accident at Euclid Avenue and Quentin Road just before 6 a.m., according to the fire department.
Witnesses told police Banks may have disobeyed a red light. The Impala was traveling west on Euclid when it ran the light, entered the intersection and was struck by a 2001 Chevrolet van traveling south on Quentin on a green light.
The impact sent the Impala into the eastbound traffic lane of Euclid where it struck a 2004 Saab, police said.
Banks, who apparently was not wearing a seatbelt, was trapped in his 2004 Chevrolet Impala sedan, police said.
The 69-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet, from Lake Villa, and the 59-year-old female driver of the Saab, from Hoffman Estates, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
No citations will be issued, Police Cmdr. Kurt Schroeder said.
