A Lockport woman was killed and four other people were injured this morning in a two-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 53 near Joliet, said officials.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m., a Mercury Sable was westbound on Louis Road at Route 53 when the driver pulled out in front of a Chevrolet Tahoe that was northbound on Route 53, said police.

The driver of the Mercury attempted to cross over the northbound lanes and was struck by the Tahoe, said police, citing preliminary information.

The driver of the Mercury, a 74-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers who were riding in her car were taken to an area hospital. The driver of the Tahoe also was injured and taken to the hospital.

The deceased woman was identified Sunday as Norma J. Dantzler of Lockport. An autopsy conducted today determined that she died of the injuries sustained in the accident, according to the Will County Coroner's office.
