Evanston Dog Beach

Address: 1631 Sheridan Rd., Evanston Area: An open 700-foot-wide swath of Evanston's beachfront, just north of the Church Street launch facility. Cleanliness: The sand and water are fairly clean. Congestion: With more than 1,100 dogs registered to use the dog beach last year, the scene can be busy on warm days. Nearest temptation: Fit + Frisky, 1016 Davis St., Evanston, sells a range of organic and natural food lines, unusual toys, accessories such as collars, leashes, sweaters and rain gear. Admission: Passes are $50 a dog for Evanston residents, $100 a dog for non-residents. After Aug. 1, passes are half-price. Owners can get passes through the mail or in person at the Dempster Beach Office, 1251 Lake Shore Blvd., Evanston, or the Evanston Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., with proof that the dog is vaccinated, in good health and licensed by the local government where the dog's owner lives.
