Sandburg scored three runs in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and held off host Andrew for a 4-1 victory Saturday and the Class 4A sectional championship.
The Eagles (30-2) earned a berth in Monday's Crestwood supersectional, where they will face St. Rita (33-6) at 7 p.m. at Standard Bank Stadium.
Ryan Billo started the fourth with a single, went to second on a sacrifice and scored on Alex Kazmierski's double to right. After Tony Stramaglia's infield single put runners on the corners, Iano O'Connor singled to drive in Kazmierski for a 3-1 lead.
Nick Kujawa, who had tied the game in the third with an RBI single, walked to load the bases, and Sandburg scored its third run of the inning when sophomore Brant Valach walked.
The Eagles seemed to ride the momentum from getting out of a jam in the top of the fourth. Andrew had runners at second and third with nobody out but couldn't score.
Sandburg starter Troy Jozsa (10-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on seven hits and three walks while striking out six. After walking the leadoff hitter in the seventh, Phil Piecuch came on in relief and walked his only batter.
Lucas Fritch came on and got two flyouts to center and a struck out cleanup hitter Jeff Zimmerman to end the game.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
