Bidwill and Halas

Chicago Bears coach George Halas (left) is seen with Chicago Cardinals coach Ernie Nevers (right) and Cardinals owner Charles Bidwill in December 1939. Halas and Bidwill had known each other since World War One, and Bidwill once was a part-owner of the Bears. During the lean years of the Great Depression, Bidwill helped keep the Bears financially solvent by loaning him $5,000 in 1931. Bidwill then purchased the Cardinals in 1932 for $50,000, and relinquished his stake in the Bears.
