Juror in mob trial tells judge of threat

At a closed-door hearing, a federal judge questioned a juror from last summer's Family Secrets mob trial who alleged that a reputed mobster mouthed a threat to a prosecutor during closing arguments, an attorney who was present said Thursday.

Attorney Rick Halprin, a defense lawyer during the trial, declined to go into detail but confirmed that U.S. District Judge James Zagel held a 10-minute discussion with the juror as lawyers listened.According to a letter from a federal prosecutor, the juror said he heard defendant Frank Calabrese Sr. make the threat and read his lips on Aug. 27.
