Churchill traveled aboard the Queen Mary a number of times, including a 1943 wartime trip to visit American President <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEPLT005656" title="Franklin Delano Roosevelt" href="/topic/politics/franklin-delano-roosevelt-PEPLT005656.topic">Franklin Roosevelt</a> in New York. Five thousand German prisoners of war were on the ship during that same voyage.
