Join Glamour N'Glitz Events this July 14 and July 15 for their first Junior Food Festival in Mount Airy, where everyone in the community is welcome to taste new dishes, be part of multiple activities and contests, and enjoy music and other entertainments.
Amber Moore, one of the coordinators of this event, stated in an email interview, that they have been planning this festival for a year now and they are hoping to make this festival an annual event for the community.
According to Moore, the GNG Events team came up with the idea of hosting this festival.
“We were sitting around one day with our families and saw how all of the kids were talking about the ‘Master Chef Junior,’ ‘Kids Baking Championship’ and ‘Chopped Junior’ shows. They were enthusiastic that kids their age had mastered the skills to make it to the top, and were stunned by the creations they saw,” stated Moore.
“Their curiosity peaked with dozens of questions to follow. We decided that with our immense love of food and events expertise that we could create a festival that would make their newfound passion come to life. The Junior Food Festival was born.”
Throughout the festival, Moore stated that they will have many different food vendors, such as Have A Ball (meatballs), Spankys BBQ, Snowie of Maryland (snow cones), Ambrosia Catering (Cajun Creole), Taste of Aloha (Hawaiian), Cryin Johnnies (hot dogs), Renzi’s Pizza, Tamo Smoothies, Calvert Kettle Corn, For Goodness Cupcakes, Something Sweet Maryland and Michaels Desserts.
Moore encourages the attendees to come early because for the first hour, they will be hosting free activities and they will have prizes for every attendee. Also, throughout the event, they will have door prizes, crafts, a pie in the face game, beer and wine garden, live music, stage performances from local businesses and organizations, games, vendors for the attendees’ shopping experience, and much more.
Moore explained that they will be offering different contests for the attendees. They will have a “Food Scavenger Hunt,” where kids ages 3 and up will be able to learn about the different cuisines at the festival and taste plates from each food vendor.
Also, they will have a “Culinary Showdown” hosted by “Chopped Junior” winner Danielle McNerney. The contestants will learn about kitchen safety and have a chance to create a kid friendly dish. Moore explained that no skill is required for this show down.
“It is just a fun activity that brings any inspiring young chef to new heights in food education,” stated Moore.
In addition, Moore stated that they will have a “Frosting Competition” hosted by Junior Pastry Chef, Kaliope, from “Fleur De Pomme Patisserie.” The competitors will learn how to frost their own colossal cupcakes through demos with Kaliope before competing on their own in the KidsZone. “The purpose of this festival is to bring that passion for food and exploration of different cuisines to a whole new generation of chefs,” stated Moore.
Admission to this event is free for everyone after noon; however, the attendees have the option of purchasing an Early Bird Wristband. People interested in the wristband must buy their ticket between 11 a.m. and noon.
The Early Bird Wristbands are $10 for adults. Those VIP's have the opportunity to get food from their favorite food vendors first. There are only 1,000 early bird tickets available, so those interested are encouraged to attend as early as possible to not miss the opportunity.
Kids under 13 are free and will be permitted to enter the festival both days an hour early.
Moore stated that 100 percent of every VIP ticket sold will go to the community’s nonprofit organization choice, Maryland Horse Rescue. The money will be used for the rehabilitation and rehoming for the horses on property.
The festival starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m.

Sykesville Cinema presents ‘The Sandlot’
The Town of Sykesville brings to all the families in the community the opportunity to enjoy the nice weather at the Millard Cooper Park and also watch the movie, “The Sandlot,” this July 14.
The Sandlot is about a group of kids who play baseball in their neighborhood. One day, the main character, Scottie Smalls, barrows his stepfather’s baseball signed by the baseball legend, Babe Ruth. While playing, accidently the ball gets hit over a fence.
Throughout the movie, the group of kids has the mission of getting the ball back with many obstacles.
The movie is recommended for kids over 8 years old. Each show begins approximately 15 minutes after sundown. People are encouraged to come early to get a good seat and bring their lawn chairs or blankets.
General parking is available at Sykesville Middle and the Millard Cooper Park includes easy access handicapped parking.
Admission to this event is free; however, the Town of Sykesville will be requesting non-perishable food donations from the attendees for Carroll County Food Sunday. They will have collection bins available at the park.

Taylorsville UMC presents Vacation Bible Camp
Starting this July 16 through July 20, Taylorsville United Methodist Church will be hosting the Vacation Bible Camp for all of the kids in the community where they will be able to experience and learn about the word of God through a variety of activities.
Elena Manco, one of the coordinators of the bible camp, stated in an email interview, that she has been helping the church with the programs and activities they host for the past five years and now, this is her first year in charge of coordinating the bible camp for the church.
Manco stated that this year’s theme is Rolling River Rapids. This theme was chosen by the previous Bible camp director, Mary Flager, Pastor Sherri, and some of the members of last year’s Bible camp committee.
According to Manco, throughout the program they will be hosting different activities for the attendees, such as crafts, stories, music, games, cookouts, and lessons about faith, and all of them are going to have a summer camp themed.
“This camp is important for the community, because it is giving kids the opportunity to grow stronger in their faith through a variety of fun and interesting ways! This camp will allow the church to build stronger connections with the youth in our community, as well as their families. Parents should take their children because it is a great opportunity for the kids to be able to walk in faith. This will be a week full of events and lessons that these kids may not normally get, and it will also help make sure they have a super fun summer!,” stated Manco.
The Bible camp starts at 6 p.m. with a family dinner. The lessons and activities for that day start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. The Bible camp will be hosted at the church located at 4356 Ridge Road.
The admission to be part of the Vacation Bible Camp is free.
