North Carroll: Take a trip along Indiana Amish Trail with Pleasant Grove UMW

The United Methodist Women of Pleasant Grove Church are hosting a trip along the Indiana Amish Trail from Sept. 30 through Oct. 5.

On Sept. 30, you will depart the church and head to Newcomerstown, Ohio, where you will visit Old Main Street Museum Social Center and the Temperance Tavern Museum; and stay at the Hampton Inn. On Oct. 1, the day consists of a tour of the countryside to downtown Shippshewana and a visit to the Menno Hof Amish-Mennonite Interpretive Center.

The following day, Oct. 2, will feature a tour of Jayco RV Manufacturing Plant and seeing exhibits on Hoosier Kitchen at Nappanee Center. In addition, a visit of Wakarusa dime store and of the Meadow Brooke Farm, as well a visit to the John Deere Room and the “Jesus” Donkeys raised on the farm, will be held.

Guests will take a backroad guided tour of Amish Country on Oct. 3. Some of the places they will visit include the Dutch Country Market, Silver Star Leather, an Amish family farm, and the Little Helpers Quilt Shop.

They will then head to Kidron, Ohio, on Oct. 4 and visit Lehman’s hardware and depart with a guide for scenic drive through the world’s largest Amish community. Along the way they will stop at Mattie Hershberger Baskets, Heini’s Cheese Chalet and enjoy dinner at the New Amish Country Theater.

The last day of the trip, Oct. 5, guests will leave the Amish area and head home, arriving at approximately at 5 p.m.

Cost for the trip is $1,413 for single, $1,072 for double occupancy and $970 for triple. There are still spots open — the cost covers motor coach transportation, five nights’ accommodations, luggage handling, taxes, five breakfasts, five dinners with desserts (and taxes and gratuities), tour guides, guides gratuities and all listed attractions, entertainment and theater tickets. Final deadline for registration and payment is Aug. 6.

Flea market

Lazarus Church in Lineboro will be hosting a Flea Market on Saturday, July 14, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

They are still seeking vendors for the event and spaces are $20 for a 10-foot-by-10-foot spot. As of June 24, there are 15 vendors already signed up and food will be sold by Lineboro 4-H Club.

Crab Feed

The Manchester volunteer fire company is hosting a Crab Feed from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

The event is $40 for adults and $20 for children. The cost includes all you can eat crabs, fried chicken, hot dogs, Maryland crab soup, corn on the cob, salads, sides, beer, soda and water. A cash bar will also be available. All those consuming alcohol must be 21 and no outside alcohol is permitted.
