The deadline to apply for the Carroll Promise Scholarship, which could allow just-graduated students to qualify for up to $5,000 in tuition assistance to attend Carroll Community College, is July 13.

The scholarship is an in-house scholarship program to bridge the gap until the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship begins with the 2019-2020 academic year.

The scholarship is for Carroll County residents who graduated high school in 2018, and eligible students who enroll and register by July 13 may qualify for the one-year scholarship. This scholarship will be funded through donors in the Carroll Community College Foundation until the state program takes over the following year.

This scholarship is expected to award an additional $300,000 to Carroll County graduates who meet eligibility requirements, according to the release. These include:

  • Carroll County residents who graduated from high school in 2018;
  • High school grade-point average of at least 2.3 on a 4.0 scale;
  • Must attend Carroll Community College full-time (minimum of 12 credits per semester);
  • Must fall below annual adjusted gross income eligibility requirements: $100,000 if the applicant is single or resides in a single-income household; or $150,000 if applicant resides in a two-income household;
  • FAFSA must be submitted by July 13 to determine eligibility;
  • Must enroll and register for classes by July 13.

Carroll Promise Scholarship is much like the state program’s eligibility requirements, though, Carroll’s grant does not require the year of employment service obligation. Funding for scholarships is limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
