Under Armour debuts in India

Under Armour has expanded to India through Amazon.

Under Armour launched its brand in India this week with an online presence on Amazon Fashion.

The Baltimore-based sports apparel maker says it has begun selling to Indian consumers through a dedicated Amazon Brand Store, where it is offering more than 330 styles of clothing and footwear in running and training categories.

Amazon Fashion is one of the largest fashion outlets in India, selling apparel, shoes, watches, handbags, luggage, sunglasses and jewelry.

"Sportswear is an incredibly strong category for us," growing at 70 percent year-over-year because of lifestyle changes in India that have spurred demand, Arun Sirdeshmukh, head of Amazon Fashion India, said in an announcement.

Under Armour sees untapped potential in the global market and has been expanding in places such as China and Brazil.

Expanding to India represents a milestone for the brand, Andy Donkin, Under Armour's global chief marketing officer, said in the announcement. Under Armour's international sales jumped 55 percent during the last three months of the 2016 fiscal year and now make up 16 percent of sales.

"India is a diverse and dynamic market, massive in scale and growing faster every day," Donkin said. "Being able to bring our brand to this country, one that values innovation through its own storied history...solidifies our ongoing global expansion."

All products are eligible for Amazon Prime, which, for a fee,  offers free one-day and two-day delivery to more than 100 cities in India.
