Goodbye 2012, it's been real. But on the trends front, we end on a sad note. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West -- two of the most obnoxious people in the world -- are reproducing. Joe Flacco can't even claim the title of the NFL's most pathetic quarterback. Thanks to Congress, the economy may be on the verge of collapse. And Hillary Clinton is in the hospital with a blood clot.
Happy New Year everybody!
In between auto-tuned sets, Kanye West confirmed last night what the gossip mags have been speculating about for months. Then again, US Weekly and Life & Style want every famous person to be pregnant. Fun fact: Kim's first trimester will last longer than her first marriage.
Meanwhile, Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Redskins last night, sending the Washington football team to the playoffs as the NFC East Champs for first time since 1999. And with only hours to spare, the country is now hanging from a tree branch off the side of the fiscal cliff.
Finally, the Internet is sending well wishes to Hillary Clinton who was admitted to a New York hospital yesterday after she had been suffering from a series of health problems for the past few weeks. Fox News commentators who accused her of "faking sick" to avoid talking about Benghazi must feel mighty stupid right now.

Why: The U.S. Congress comes back on Monday without a deal to avert the "fiscal cliff" and only a few hours of actual legislative time scheduled in which to act if an agreement materializes. Negotiations involving Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell appeared to offer the last hope for avoiding the across-the-board tax increases and draconian cuts in the federal budget that will be triggered at the start of the New Year because of a deficit-reduction law enacted in August, 2011.
