Why: Severe storms are forecast across Maryland and much of the mid-Atlantic Thursday, bringing potential for damaging wind gusts, heavy rains and flooding, and isolated tornadoes. Some storms were possible overnight and early Thursday morning, but the main risk for the most severe weather is in the afternoon hours. Storms moving through Western Maryland prompted a severe thunderstorm warning in Washington County about 6:45 a.m. and could reach Central Maryland, potentially weakened, by mid-morning.
