Has Apple gotten lousy at keeping secrets these days?
The tech press is abuzz with speculation that the company which birthed the iPhone and the iPad will be coming out with an in-between device, an iPad mini. The mini is expected to be smaller than the iPad but larger than the iPhone, and presumably go head-to-head against other similar devices from Amazon (Kindle Fire), Google (Nexus 7) and other manufacturers.
What's interesting is that Microsoft is expected to unveil Windows 8 later this week, plus its own tablet competitor, Surface, on Friday. And Google has its own plan to unveil new hardware/software in exactly one week (Oct. 29).
Clearly, these tech giants are gearing up for the critical holiday shopping season. And clearly, they're all focused on mobile computing: tablets and mini-tablets and smartphones, because that's where all the hot growth is now.
PCMag's Sascha Segan has a good overview of what might come out of the Apple event tomorrow, including the mini, a new MacBook Pro, an updated iPad with the new Lightning port, and updated Mac mini and Mac desktop.
