Joel Steinger and Steven Steiner

Mutual Benefits Corp, Fort Lauderdale Federal prosecutors accuse four principals of Mutual Benefits -- brothers Joel Steinger and Steven Steiner -- and two Fort Lauderdale attorneys who worked with the company, Michael McNerney and Anthony Livoti Jr., of conspiracy, fraud and money laundering in operating a $1 billion Ponzi scheme. All four men have pleaded not guilty and are not expected to go on trial until next year. Mutual Benefits was involved in the trading of life insurance policies for terminally ill people before regulators shut the company down in May 2004.
