Harford's first co-working space opens Wednesday

The first co-working space for start-up businesses in Harford County is having its grand opening Wednesday, according to the county's economic development office.

The GroundFloor at Harford is located in the Swan Creek Village Center in Havre de Grace, off Pulaski Highway.

The space is 2,700 square feet and contains individual work stations, conference rooms and presentation areas. Its industrial decor features chalkboard walls, lounge furniture and polished concrete floors. The space is enabled with wireless Internet access.

Membership, which costs between $40 and $100 per person, per month, is required to use the space.

Harford County Executive David R. Craig is scheduled to appear at a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. That will be followed by an open house until 4 p.m. A networking event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The GroundFloor is "ideal for technology entrepreneurs who want to work on creating their own 'what's next' while also having the opportunity to work collaboratively with others," Craig said in a statement.

The goal of the space is to get people who are working in isolation -- in their homes or in coffee shops -- into a collaborative environment, according to the Harford County Office of Economic Development.

In addition to furnished workspace, the GroundFloor will offer small business resources and training seminars.
