More homes sold in the Baltimore metro region last month than in any December since 2006, as the housing market continued its slow recovery.
A total of 2,164 units closed in December, up 11 percent from the same time in 2012 and 6 percent since November, according to data provided by RealEstate Business Intelligence (RBI), a subsidiary of online listing service MRIS. In December 2006, 2,583 units sold, according to the numbers, also from the George Mason University Center for Regional Analysis.
"This increase in closed sales from November does not follow typical seasonal patterns as this change is generally flat," according to the RBI analysis.
Overall for 2013, the number of sales increased 13.8 percent from 2012, with the median sales price up 4.3 percent. All six jurisdictions -- Baltimore City and Howard, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Harford and Baltimore counties -- saw the median sales price rise during the year.
