A 9,000-square-foot house on nearly five acres in the heart of Howard County sold in September for $1.5 million.
The Colonial at 13320 Wicklow Place in Clarksville was custom-built in 1996. The key selling points were features that typically aren't seen in modern houses, said Richard Watson, the seller's agent.
"It's all brick," he said. "New construction and large houses will not be brick."
The other unusual details include a leather-and-mahogany-paneled library with a marble fireplace and a two-story foyer with a curved staircase and cherry inlaid hardwood floor.
The house has five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half-baths. The master bedroom features a fireplace, and the master bathroom includes a Jacuzzi tub along with rooms off to the side, Watson said. One side contains a dressing room and closet, the other a shower and closet.
The property has a four-car garage and an outdoor pool, Watson said. The lower level features a wet bar and recreation room. And the house has a sophisticated electronics system that, among other things, wires the entire house for sound.
"It is huge, so the quality of the materials inside and outside the house would be difficult to duplicate," Watson said. "It's also impossible to get such a large private lot … in the center of Howard County."
The original asking price in March was $1.77 million. The lowering of the price was "a reflection of the marketplace," Watson said.
