How did you get into your business, and what motivated you to start it? In 1953, my father, Dr. Robert N. Richards Sr., was the first orthopedic surgeon in the Tri-State area. I joined him in 1983, after graduating from Temple Medical School and Temple’s hospital residency. After practicing with Orthopaedic Associates for 29 years, I decided to form a new practice, in honor of my retired father, who turned 90 in July. He has been dedicated to the community and has been the team doctor for Shippensburg University football and athletics and the Chambersburg Area Senior High School football team for more than 50 years. My daughter, Dr. Karli Richards, and her associate, Dr. Katherine Cashdollar, foot and ankle surgeons, and our newest associate, shoulder and forearm specialist Dr. Robert P. Lyons, make up the practice. All of our current doctors graduated from Temple University Medical School, sharing the philosophy of the importance of compassionate patient communication when making critical decisions about their medical care. A former retired partner, Dr. John Ashby, also was a Temple graduate.
