LaShelle Baltimore, 34, and her daughter Jermaine Boone, 17, were waiting outside the new Mad Rag store when it opened at 8 a.m. at Mondawmin Mall. They left about two hours later with five bags.
"I wanted to be here when they opened," Baltimore said. "I was thinking there was going to be a line around the mall."
Baltimore said she was pleasantly surprised to find there weren't any crowds.
"It was nice," she said.
Baltimore said she was at the store Wednesday to price all the items on her list for her six children, including Jermaine. She has five girls and one son.
Baltimore said she would head next to Security Mall and end the day at Arundel Mills. She has furniture, clothes and electronics on her list.
The family plans to spend Christmas at their Reservoir Hill home with a big family dinner. They'll start the day at church and open presents afterward.
Baltimore says she typically has to wake her children up to remind them of the holiday now that most are teenagers.
