Businesses have been stepping up to help out furloughed workers, offering special discounts, financial help, free food and other deals.
Here's one that's offering to relieve the stress of unplanned, unpaid leave.
Until the government reopens, Ojas Wellness Center is offering free yoga classes and discounted massages to all federal employees with a valid ID.
Discounts of 25 percent can be applied to massages scheduled before 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until the government reopens, the wellness center said.
"Financial and job uncertainty are among the biggest stressors in an individual's life," said Kelly Wilkes, Ojas' owner.
Added co-owner Rex Wilkes, "With 300,000 federal workers in the Baltimore area, we're seeing both clients and staff affected by the shutdown. If we can positively impact these individuals' health right now, we want to do it."
Federal employees are asked to call any Ojas location to schedule a massage and to look for class schedules online at OjasWellness.com.
Ojas, which has locations in Owings Mills, Hunt Valley and Mt. Washington, offers massage, facials, yoga, Pilates and acupuncture.
