Weis Markets kicks off 90-day price freeze

Consumers can expect lower prices than usual on hundreds of grocery items at  Weis Markets starting today.

The supermarket chain's 11th round of the initiative runs for the next three months and is happening at all 164 stores. Weis has stores in Maryland and four other states in the mid-Atlantic.

The grocer says it has lowered prices on more than 1,300 products.

The company began periodic price freezes in 2009. The current round goes through Oct. 12.

Kurt Schertle, Weis' executive vice president for sales and merchandising, says the program "helps our customer lock in long-term savings."

The sale includes both name-brand and private-brand products in grocery, frozen, dairy, meat, health, beauty and general merchandise categories.
