Hoping to boost brand awareness and advance the growth of the nation's fastest growing team sport, the Pigtown-based company is seeking top female athletes for the "elite level" STX team. In the first round, the company will select three team captains.
"This is an opportunity for anybody who is a recent graduate to be able to play and stay connected in the lacrosse world," said Emily Hughes, women's brand manager for lacrosse and field hockey for STX.
Hughes said the company expects the STX team to participate in tournaments in the mid-Atlantic and play college teams in exhibition games, mainly during the summer.
STX, which makes equipment for lacrosse, field hockey and golf, is best known for ushering in the modern era of lacrosse in 1970 with the introduction of the first synthetic lacrosse head.
Applicants for team captain must be recent female college graduates who played lacrosse in college and who are no longer eligible to play NCAA sports. To apply, submit a one- to two-minute video to firstname.lastname@example.org with a headshot, completed questionnaire and description of why you live and breathe lacrosse. The application can be downloaded at http://missionmedia.net/castingcall/. The deadline is Aug. 10.
